The ultimate sleep, for your beloved family

A design that offers peace of mind
even for senior pets with reduced immunity and muscle strength

NOMIN PET BED BY KUMIKO OBINATA

A functional pet bed
designed to support both comfort and health

A pet bed developed through a collaboration between BRAIN SLEEP, which approaches sleep through the science of the brain, and Ms. Kumiko Obinata, who lives with four rescue dogs and is deeply involved in rescue activities. Designed with health in mind, beginning with sleep.

MESSAGE

Having lived with pets since birth, there are things I have come to value deeply.
Not only comfort, but choices made with health in mind.
With limited meals, ingredients and nutrition should be suited to each individual.
By making the best sleep possible for two-thirds of our lives,
I thought through how it could lead to the best possible life.

A portion of the proceeds from this product will be donated to animal welfare organizations.

Did you know?

Key characteristics of sleep in dogs and cats

While many aspects of the sleep mechanisms of dogs and cats are still not fully understood, sleep—just as it is for humans—is essential for their health.
Quality sleep plays an important role in supporting their overall well-being.

Sleep duration in dogs and cats

The average daily sleep duration for dogs and cats is approximately 12 to 15 hours

They tend to sleep for extended periods during the day.
Puppies and kittens under one year of age, as well as senior dogs and cats whose physical strength has declined, may sleep around 18 to 19 hours a day.
A key characteristic of sleep in dogs and cats is that it is polyphasic—they repeatedly fall asleep and wake up throughout the day.

Sleep characteristics of senior dogs and cats

They tend to sleep more consistently in the same environment than when they were younger.

Creating an environment that supports both the mind and body becomes increasingly important.
With longer periods of sleep, issues such as poor circulation or joint stiffness may occur.
As with humans, sleep-related concerns are more likely to arise as dogs and cats age.

What are the characteristics of senior sleep?

Like humans, dogs and cats alternate between REM and non-REM sleep.

In humans, sleep is said to consist of approximately 25% REM sleep and 75% non-REM sleep.
Dogs and cats follow a similar pattern, but they are more sensitive to sounds and movement, waking easily in response to their surroundings.
During REM sleep, their legs may twitch or move noticeably.
While this can be endearing and may make you want to sleep beside them, close contact can unintentionally disrupt each other’s sleep.
To maintain a healthy relationship with your pet, sleeping separately is often recommended.

A functional pet bed designed to
support both comfort and health

Designed with a care slope and barrier circle

As pets age, their leg strength declines, and steps or level changes that once felt easy can become challenging—whether on familiar walking routes or within the home.
This slope design gently supports everyday movement, offering care not only for senior pets, but also for puppies and kittens as they grow.
The barrier circle, made with soft cushioning materials, provides a sense of security.
It gently cradles the head and supports deeper, more restful sleep.
From young pets to seniors, the design supports safe and comfortable use across life stages.

Designed to handle accidents with care

A pet sheet can be placed beneath the mat, keeping it securely in place and reducing concerns about accidents reaching the floor.
It offers reassurance not only during puppy and kitten stages, but also for senior pets during periods when toilet accidents or vomiting may occur more frequently.

Materials

Inspired by
the design philosophy
of the BRAIN SLEEP PILLOW

Original materials that support heat dissipation

Highly breathable proprietary materials and a unique structure gently reduce deep brain temperature, helping create a comfortable sleep environment that supports deeper rest.

Comfort that lasts through extended rest

A proprietary three-layer structure made with specialized materials evenly distributes pressure while fitting closely to the body.
It provides stable support in any sleeping position, even when resting for long hours.

Clean and eco-consciouss

With a thorough focus on hygiene, the bed is designed for easy care and lasting cleanliness, while remaining gentle on the environment.
Not only the cover, but also the cushioning materials are fully washable.

The cover is treated with DEOFACTOR®, an original antibacterial and deodorizing finish.
It helps break down harmful substances that adhere to textile fibers.

Ms. Kumiko Obinata's design approach

A detail that brings a smile!
The “Zzz” photo spot

“This idea came to me while designing, as I imagined pets peacefully asleep.
When they’re sleeping so sweetly, you can’t help but want to take a photo, can you?
I thought it would be fun if there were a small detail that fit that moment perfectly.
The ‘Zzz’ mark was actually designed together with my husband.”

Designed to blend with the interior

“Pet products often end up looking a bit childish, so when designing this bed, I wanted something that wouldn’t disrupt the feel of the interior.
I paid close attention to the choice of fabrics to ensure it would sit naturally in the space.
Of course, hygiene—such as deodorizing and antibacterial performance—was essential, but because I wanted it to be used for a long time, durability was just as important in selecting the materials.”

How to attach the cover.

How to attach the cover.

The cover is delivered already attached.
After washing, please refer to the instructions below when reattaching it.

Open the zipper on the side of the main body cover.
Insert the cushioning materials for the back and the side, one piece at a time, then close the zipper.

1. Push the side cushioning firmly all the way to the edge of the cover.

2. Adjust the cushioning while aligning the seams of the cover to achieve a clean finish.

Open the zipper on the underside of the base cover.
Insert the cushioning material for the base, then close the zipper.

Folding the cushioning material in half while inserting it will help it fit smoothly.

If needed, place a pet training pad between the base and the main body.

Adjust the main body cover, then position the base section and align everything to complete!

About My Animal Welfare Activities

Personally, I do whatever I can—donating to cover activity expenses, helping rescue dogs by fostering them temporarily, and sharing information widely on social media.
I believe that simply showing how to get involved can help broaden the circle of support, and this is an activity I truly value.
Recently, I also started a YouTube channel to help people more clearly imagine what life with rescue dogs can be like.
I often meet people who want to support rescue dogs but aren’t sure where or how to begin.
Through this product, I hope to create a gentle connection to that support.
With this in mind, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to animal welfare organizations.
