Brain Sleep Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Atsushi Hirota; hereinafter "Brain Sleep") and Haseko Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Kazuo Ikegami; hereinafter "Haseko") will begin a joint study with NTT DX Partners Corporation (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President: Tamaki Endo; hereinafter "NTT DX Partners"), a company within the NTT East Group (hereinafter "NTT East"), to improve residents' quality of sleep with the goal of enhancing their daily performance. Background of this initiative In condominiums, efforts are underway to adapt to diversifying family structures and lifestyle changes through IoT home appliances and other technologies, and the concept of well-being is increasingly being incorporated to improve daily life. From the perspective that improving sleep quality promotes recovery from fatigue and ultimately leads to increased productivity, an experimental dwelling unit has been set up in the Sustana Blanche Motogyotoku project for verification. In this experimental dwelling unit, at the request of Haseko, Brain Sleep's latest knowledge of sleep medicine, optimal temperature and humidity settings for sleep, and the use of wood on walls to enhance relaxation during sleep have been comprehensively incorporated to create a living space that embodies the results of sleep research published in academic papers and other sources. Furthermore, by developing an application that utilizes NTT East Group's sleep measurement API and building a smart home system linked to biometric data during sleep, a new form of integrated hardware and software will provide an environment that improves sleep quality. In this experimental dwelling unit, the effectiveness will be verified by acquiring sensing data from residents and conducting regular surveys, with the aim of creating optimal living spaces for each resident from a sleep perspective. Key features of the "Comfortable Sleep Home" ① Optimization of circadian rhythm*2 using sleep tech*1 ...Lighting control within the exclusive area, and adjustment of natural light intake through curtain and blind control ② Creation of a comfortable temperature, humidity, and air environment ...Temperature and humidity control through building structure, insulation, and other interior finishes. Air conditioning management through a whole-house air conditioning system ③ Relaxation effects from colors and sounds ...Adoption of wall colors conducive to sound sleep, and installation of soundproof doors achieving less than 40dB ④ Relaxation effects from wood ...Relaxation effects from touching wooden wallpaper and smelling wood *1 Devices, systems, and services that use IoT technology, AI technology, etc. to monitor and analyze sleep states and scientifically improve or enhance sleep quality. *2 Also known as the circadian rhythm, this is an approximately 24-hour internal body clock. The NTT East Group's sleep measurement API-based application and a smart home system linked to biometric data during sleep provide a new, unprecedented approach from both hardware and software perspectives. ① Optimization of circadian rhythm using sleep tech ・To achieve quality sleep, it is effective to adjust the circadian rhythm, which regulates sleep cycles, body temperature, autonomic nervous system, immune system, and hormone secretion. For this, it is important to "expose oneself to sunlight upon waking" and to "make the indoor lighting similar to natural light." In the experimental dwelling unit of Sustana Blanche Motogyotoku, a smart home system is being built that utilizes sleep tech to automatically control the living environment to be optimal for sleep. Biometric data during residents' sleep is measured, and the air conditioner, curtains, lighting, diffuser, and audio are linked according to the sleep state. This creates an environment that promotes quality sleep tailored to the residents' lifestyles. ② Creation of a comfortable temperature, humidity, and air environment ・To achieve the appropriate bedroom environment temperature (summer: 24-28℃, winter: 16-20℃) and humidity (50-60%), insulation is filled in the sub-walls and ceilings, and partitions in exclusive areas are adjusted to allow for efficient heating and cooling. ・The "with air® CUBE" whole-house air conditioning heat exchange ventilation system for condominium exclusive use, co-developed by Haseko, has been adopted. Experiments at Haseko Technical Research Institute's residential experimental building confirmed its feature of maintaining CO2 concentration during sleep below 1000ppm, which is considered good for a sleeping environment, and is expected to improve sleep quality. ③ Relaxation effects from colors and sounds ・By using wallpaper in calming and soothing colors like blue or purple, the room's relaxation effect is enhanced. ・The sound level to enhance relaxation in the bedroom is considered to be 40dB or less. To achieve a sound level of 40dB or less, soundproof interior doors are installed, and the sound insulation performance of the sashes is rated as class 2 or 3 (housing performance display). ④ Relaxation effects from wood ・We are promoting the use of wood for 45% of interior surfaces, such as ceilings, floors, walls, and doors. The adoption of wood provides a relaxing effect through its scent and touch. ・Using solid wood* as flooring can also reduce the burden on the lower limbs and help keep the room warm. *Wood in its natural state, cut from lumber. [Sleep App API] In the experimental dwelling unit of Sustana Blanche Motogyotoku, a smart home system is being built that automatically maintains an optimal sleep state tailored to each resident's sleep rhythm by turning off home appliances and adjusting air conditioning after confirming the resident has fallen asleep. Additionally, daily sleep scoring and the provision of sleep improvement content promote the achievement and maintenance of optimal sleep. [About Sustana Blanche Motogyotoku] Sustana Blanche Motogyotoku is a rental condominium project owned by Haseko that aims to achieve virtually zero CO2 emissions during building operation by completely renovating an existing corporate dormitory, a first in Japan. This project has been adopted for the "Next Generation Housing Project 2022" as a "Residential Experimental Housing for Future Housing Creation with Smart Home Systems" in the "FY2022 2nd Sustainable Building Leading Project (Next Generation Housing Type)" implemented by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, contributing to the dissemination and awareness of leading technologies in terms of "enhanced security measures," "contribution to logistics efficiency," and "others (verification of sleep quality and fatigue recovery effects through lighting, temperature and humidity, and video control by IoT devices)."
