Brain Sleep Co., Ltd. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Michibata Kosuke; hereinafter referred to as "Brain Sleep") has supervised the release of "Night & Day - Classic for the Best Sleep and Awakening" (released on September 25, 2019) by Universal Music LLC (Head office: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Fujikura Hisashi; hereinafter referred to as "Universal Music"). Seiji Nishino, founder of Brain Sleep, author of "The Stanford Method for the Best Sleep" and world authority on sleep research, led the rating survey to select the songs included. "Night & Day - Classic for the Best Sleep and Awakening" is the world's first CD album focusing on "the best sleep" and "the best awakening" that leads to good sleep by increasing activity during the day and relaxing in the evening. Rating Survey Contents> The survey involved 164 male and female monitors in their 20s to 60s listening to 30 classic masterpieces at random twice a day, in the morning and in the evening, and asking them to rate 14 "adjectives" such as whether listening to the music made them feel uplifted or calm on a 10-point scale, and the results were compiled. In addition, to investigate whether the impressions of the same 30 pieces differed between the morning and afternoon, some of the monitors were surveyed again two weeks later. Survey results When the results of the evaluations by 164 people were collated, they were neatly divided into "music that makes you feel more energetic" and "music that calms the mind." Such subjective impressions are universal, and there was no difference in the evaluations depending on the time of day the music was listened to or even if the music was listened to again after a period of time. Based on the results of this study, we selected music that induces sleep and music that increases daytime energy and created a CD. 15: Carmen Prelude (Bizet) 25: Music from "A Midsummer Night's Dream", Op. 61 - No. 9: Wedding March (Mendelssohn) 5. Suite "The Carnival of the Animals" - No. 13: The Swan (Saint-Saëns) 17: Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13 "Pathétique" - 2nd Movement (Beethoven) Comment from Professor Seiji Nishino There have been many verification cases of music, such as playing music to animals. However, the effects of music are still debated. In that sense, it was a great achievement to visualize each individual's preferences for music, to clearly separate songs that many people can relate to and that make them feel lively from songs that relax them, and to have a high reproducibility in the evaluation, although it is a subjective evaluation. Also, in the field of sleep, subjectivity is very important, and for example, no matter how deep the sleep appears in the EEG measurement, if the subjective awakening is poor, it is not felt that the sleep was good. The key point of this study is that it focused not only on "sleep" but also on "wakefulness." In order to get a good night's sleep, you need to be wakeful during the day, and the quality of your sleep begins with your morning routine. In other words, the best wakefulness leads to the best sleep, so it is expected that the classic masterpieces used in this study will work both day and night, creating a synergistic effect.
