Brain Sleep Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Kosuke Michibata; hereinafter referred to as "Brain Sleep") has partnered with Build Art Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture; CEO: Satoshi Kume; hereinafter referred to as "Build Art") to begin selling "BRAIN SLEEP HOME," a product designed to help you get the best sleep, based on the concept that "home is the best bedding," devised by Seiji Nishino, who is also the director of the Stanford University Sleep Biorhythm Research Institute, on its own EC mall (separate URL below). A model room where you can experience this recipe (bedroom only) is located in Sagami-Oono, Kanagawa Prefecture, at Build Art's headquarters. Brain Sleep's slogan is "The best sleep, the best life," and the company aims to solve social problems through sleep medicine. This project focuses on the bedroom, where we spend one-third of our lives, and aims to redesign the correct bedroom environment, while proposing new housing that matches the New Normal values and lifestyles of the future. Build Art is a company that designs and builds custom homes, mainly in Tokyo and Kanagawa, with the slogan "Building homes that make dreams come true." In addition, the company operates a variety of businesses, including glamping and artificial light vegetable factories. According to a 2018 OECD survey, the sleep time of Japanese people was the shortest in the world. A survey of the sleep deviation scores of 10,000 Japanese people conducted by Brain Sleep in December 2019 showed that the average sleep time has worsened to 6 hours and 27 minutes, 55 minutes shorter than in 2018. The Best Sleep House was created by developing and implementing our own Architectural Rules for Good Sleep, which adjust the sleeping environment through the structure, interior design, etc., to take into account elements essential for a good night's sleep, such as "color," "fragrance," "light," "temperature/humidity," "soundproofing," and "air cleanliness." In addition, by incorporating new ideas into the details of the overall structure, as well as the sleeping environment in the bedroom, we will embody a lifestyle for good quality sleep throughout the entire house, from waking up in the morning to relaxing before bedtime. In addition, when starting this project, we listened to our customers' needs regarding their bedrooms and sleep, and came up with a new design called "Thoughtful Bedroom Design." Of course, by utilizing the latest technology and incorporating IoT connectivity to assist with daily life and improving the quality of sleep, we will propose homes that aim to improve the quality of sleep for each individual. We spend one-third of our lives sleeping, in our bedrooms. With an eye on the new lifestyles of the COVID-19 era, Brain Sleep aims to design sleep homes where people can get a good night's sleep and resolve the sleep debt of Japanese people. As for future prospects, we would like to consider building a foundation that can further update this sleep-focused housing design while centrally managing the acquisition of data on daily life and the environment in the home as we expand nationwide. Architectural Rules for Good Sleep 1. Bedroom color scheme [Based on earth tones, selected based on the user's needs and the harmony with the bedroom design] The basic color scheme for the bedroom is earth tones, which are calming tones. We will also propose several bedroom color patterns that incorporate blue as an accent, which has been reported to be effective in improving sleep quality in the West. Additionally, the bedroom designs are created using diatomaceous earth and wooden components that are more harmless and take advantage of the natural benefits. *Reference THE SECRET TO A GOODNIGHT'S SLUMBER IS TO SLEEP IN A BLUE BEDROOM 2. Fragrance [We recommend that more than 45% of the interior be made of wood, and that wood contains ingredients that have a relaxing effect] More than 45% of the interior space is made of wood. Since the scent of wood contains D-limonene, α-pinene, α-cedrol, and other substances that have a relaxing effect, we have selected wood that is more likely to produce these compounds and used materials that have been treated to be fireproof. 3. Light [Optimal lighting design for the entire house before falling asleep, during sleep, and when waking up, with automatic adjustment via IoT] Lighting equipment can be installed based on conditions such as illuminance/color temperature before falling asleep, during sleep, and upon waking up, and the lighting can be automatically captured to adjust the circadian rhythm when waking up. 4. Temperature/Humidity [Adjusting temperature and humidity in the bedroom throughout the four seasons] In summer, the optimum temperature is 24-28°C, and in winter, 16-20°C, with humidity controlled to 50-60% to improve the quality of sleep. In addition to a general air conditioning system, these adjustments are made by combining a structural design with high insulation performance that makes it easier to maintain the temperature and humidity in the bedroom, and a special diatomaceous earth interior with high humidity control performance. 5. Soundproofing [External noise in the bedroom must be less than 40db] In addition to using a design that provides high soundproofing performance throughout the house, we also use doors and windows with high soundproofing performance. We also suggest that you consider arranging the interior so that it is far from the source of sound when designing your home. 6. Air cleanliness [Automatic ventilation purifies house dust and pollen] The incorporation of a 24-hour ventilation system that collects minute house dust particles, pollen, etc. and circulates clean air maintains a hygienic environment not only in the bedroom but throughout the house. In Japan in particular, people are exposed to pollen and other pollen depending on the season, which can lead to the development of allergies, so this system was also incorporated into the basic design from the perspective of sleep quality. Bedroom thoughtful design We provide designs that cater to the lifestyles, situations and needs of various customers, and can suggest bedding arrangements and interior plans. ◆ No need to worry if you wake up in the middle of the night. Bedrooms with attached toilets To avoid waking up if you have to go to the toilet far away at night, we designed the toilet next to the bedroom. We also equipped the bedroom with a footlight so that your partner doesn't wake up. ◆ Cherish each other's sleep. Separate bedroom design Since partners' wake-up and sleep times vary depending on their lifestyles, bedrooms allow for space between the beds and allow for separation with shelves or curtains. While still feeling each other's presence, each partner can achieve their own comfortable sleep rhythm. ◆A new lifestyle proposal. A one-tatami study/bedroom design Utilizing dead space, we designed a highly versatile space that can be used as a daytime home workspace, which is in high demand during this COVID-19 pandemic, as well as for personal rest time.
