Brain Sleep Co., Ltd. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Atsushi Hirota; hereinafter "Brain Sleep") will launch its home delivery cleaning service, "Brain Sleep Comforter Cleaning Service" (hereinafter "this service"), on March 17 (Tuesday) on the Brain Sleep official website. This service allows customers to send their comforters from their homes, have them professionally wet-cleaned, and then delivered back to them in a clean state. This service is available not only for Brain Sleep brand comforters but also for comforters from other manufacturers. (Please note that some materials may not be compatible.) To coincide with the launch of this service, we conducted a "Survey on Awareness and Actual Conditions Regarding Bedding Care" (hereinafter "this survey"). The results showed that 97% of respondents believe that "the cleanliness of bedding is linked to sleep quality." Furthermore, an analysis of the survey results revealed that people who keep their bedding clean tend to be more satisfied with their sleep quality, while those who do not wash their bedding tend to have lower sleep satisfaction. These results indicate a correlation between bedding cleanliness and sleep satisfaction. Background of Service Launch Various factors influence sleep quality, and among them, "bedding cleanliness" is a crucial element. Maintaining bedding in a clean state is essential for preserving a good sleep environment and ensuring daily sleep quality.Even comforters that appear clean and have no noticeable dampness or odor can accumulate sweat and sebum from daily use in their interior. Leaving them in this state increases the risk of mold and dust mite growth, and the dead bodies and feces of dust mites can become allergens, contributing to conditions such as atopic dermatitis and childhood asthma. Furthermore, it is difficult to sufficiently remove accumulated dirt, dust mites, and mold from inside bedding through sun-drying or deodorizing/sanitizing sprays at home. Therefore, Brain Sleep believes that regular cleaning, which fundamentally removes invisible dirt, is important for maintaining a clean sleep environment and improving sleep quality, and has thus launched this service. Survey on Awareness and Actual Conditions Regarding Bedding Care With increasing interest in improving sleep quality, there are likely significant individual differences in the frequency and methods of bedding care, as well as awareness of its importance. The survey results showed that 97% of respondents recognized that "the cleanliness of bedding is linked to sleep quality," but only 66% actually wash or clean their bedding regularly, and only 4% use a cleaning service. Furthermore, the most common concern when washing bedding, surpassing "it's bothersome," was "I don't know the proper way to wash it," revealing a gap between awareness of bedding care and actual behavior. Additionally, 14% of respondents had never washed either their pillow or mattress, which are used daily, and approximately half of them were dissatisfied with their sleep quality. These results suggest that the cleanliness of bedding may affect sleep satisfaction. ① The cleaner people keep their bedding, the higher their sleep satisfaction. Regarding sleep satisfaction based on bedding care frequency, over 50% of people who do not regularly care for their bedding reported dissatisfaction with their sleep quality. In contrast, among those who wash bedding such as pillowcases, comforters, and sheets at least once a week, the proportion of those who reported dissatisfaction was only 20%, showing a significant difference. This suggests that keeping bedding clean directly leads to improved sleep quality. ② The most common concern when washing bedding is "I don't know the proper way to wash it." The most common answer to the question about concerns when washing bedding was "I don't know the proper way to wash it." It became clear that the biggest obstacle to washing and cleaning bedding is not the time or cost involved, but rather the lack of knowledge about proper care methods. The next most common answer was "I don't have time," indicating that bedding care is one of those household chores that tends to be put off in daily life. Cleaning Process and Commitment The "wet cleaning" method adopted by this service effectively removes water-soluble dirt such as sweat salts and sebum, which are difficult to remove with dry cleaning. Dry cleaning is not used in this service due to the risk of damaging the protective film of natural fibers and leaving behind chemical odors.
