Project Goals
It is estimated that there are approximately 4 million patients with mental illness in Japan (including approximately 270,000 hospitalized patients) (*1), and in the case of depression, a typical mental illness, it has been reported that approximately 80-85% of sufferers also suffer from insomnia (*2).
Therefore, creating a good quality sleep environment is important in mental care wards.
According to a survey on hospital stays conducted by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in 2022 (※3), the average number of days from when a patient was admitted to when they were discharged was 16.2 days in a general hospital bed, compared to 276.7 days in a psychiatric ward, making long-term hospitalizations the norm, and the importance of a good sleep environment is considered to be even greater.
It is also expected that a good quality sleep environment may lead to a reduction in the amount of sleeping pills prescribed to patients who cannot sleep due to depression or other mental illnesses. With this in mind, Brain Sleep's various products have been introduced to the mental care ward of Hannan Hospital with the aim of providing a good quality sleep environment in hospital rooms.
